If you’re like many people today, you have hundreds of thoughts passing through your mind at any time. Recent studies found that the average person has seventy-thousand ideas in a day. That’s a lot of information to process! When you feel like your mind is racing out of control, here are seven tips to help you calm things down and tame your noisy mind.

Don’t Allow Your Thoughts to Become Obstacles

One of the most significant barriers people must overcome is the urge to overthink every notion that passes through their minds. Becoming fascinated or overly concerned provides the fuel for these thoughts to grow into things.

The more energy we put into dealing with the situation, the larger the issue seems to overwhelm us. When you allow yourself to become paralyzed by the fears of “what if’s and what now?” you lose the power of positive thinking and alternative options.

When you leave your mind open and don’t stress the small stuff, the answers you seek come to you more naturally. Instead of blocking the path to all solutions, leave your mind open to opportunities. They will present themselves.

Observe Your Thoughts as a Third Person

If you start feeling overwhelmed by your thoughts, one tactic to deal with the stress is taking a step back from your feelings, and try to view it from the vantage point of a third-party observer.

We run patterns through our mind repeatedly, and suddenly it feels as if we’re on a never ending feedback loop that doesn’t help us achieve our higher goal, whatever that goal might be.

By taking a step back and taking an objective viewpoint, you can more easily evaluate issues with curiosity and a non-judgmental approach.

Allow Your Thoughts to Pass

When confronted with thousands of different thoughts in a day, it can be challenging to disseminate or sort every notion into a one-size-fits-all compartment in our mind.

Thoughts are normal. When you try to over control ideas by labeling them as unacceptable, wrong, or bad, we only hurt ourselves. Instead of holding on and trying to over-analyze what you’re thinking, release these ideas into the abundant universe and let them go. Your mind doesn’t have to hold you hostage.

Your Feelings Aren’t Personal

Everyone experiences feelings. Each day, we witness or experience things that make us feel a certain way. Perhaps you feel jealous. Maybe you feel angry or scared. When you have these feelings, it’s challenging not to feel responsible for them. That you should be doing better or that you deserve more than what you have.

It’s critical to remember that you aren’t solely responsible for the ideas that your mind processes. In many cases, these thoughts materialize from somewhere beyond us.

As you become more mindful, you discover ways to remove yourself from your thoughts, so they become more self-evident. In doing so, you surrender that your thoughts aren’t in your control, making them impersonal.

When they are no longer personal, you can surrender; they aren’t in your control.

The more you resist the urge to be in control, the more peace you have in life.

Breathe!

In today’s hurried world, it often feels like it’s hard to catch our breath. If you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed out, or tired, give yourself a break and take a few deep breaths.

No matter what situation you’re facing, there is almost always more than one way to come up with a solution. All you need to do is relax, breathe, and keep your mind open to the possibilities.

Focus Your Energy Constructively

Giving back is one way to stop a noisy mind. Volunteering is a great way to change your perspective and see life through a different lens. By focusing on doing something helpful and productive, you can take a break from the ideas and thoughts that conjure up when left to your own devices.

In addition to volunteering, exercise is a great way to focus your energy constructively. Physical fitness helps contribute to improved mood and higher levels of serotonin. When this “feel good” chemical is coursing through your veins, your thoughts become more evident.

Replace Negative Self Talk With Positive Self Talk

Negative self-talk is the road to ruin! No one is perfect. If you find yourself beating yourself up over anything, you need to stop right away.

Instead, replace the negative thoughts with positive ones. If this is a challenge for you, hypnotherapy is an affordable and effective solution to help you change your negative mindset. Your mind will become calmer, and you’ll experience more feelings of joy and happiness.
